The VN’s story is a mostly linear harem romance with urban fantasy elements. Primarily a sex-comedy, the game is also heavily inspired by the mystery and horror genres. While majorly focused on school and romance, main plot points see the protagonist grappling with his mother’s existence as a mermaid (and both the abilities and crutches this gives him), as well aggressive offers to buy his family home from a newly arrived industrialist kingpin.

There are currently over 15 planned romanceable characters of varying depth, including fellow students, teachers, villains, and random encounter characters. Additional characters include villains in the form of a sketchy industrialist and his employees, bullies, and friends you meet throughout the game.

Developer Notes:

I’m hard at work preparing the full 0.1 release for Love by the Water, but I decided I wanted to release a demo before the full first update which should be going live within the next month. This covers roughly the first half or so of 0.1. I’m hoping this will allow me to get some early feedback on the game so I know what to work and focus on. If you have the time, I would really appreciate feedback on what you liked or hated about the game and general comments about your experience. This demo should properly set the tone of the project and introduce you to the cast, though keep in mind that this game will heavily feature supernatural/fantasy elements that are not yet present.
